The greatest asset of any organisation is it’s people. Happy, confident stress-free employees are more productive than those who are suffering from the effects of stress. However, it is estimated that almost 13 million working days are lost each year in Britain due to stress, depression or anxiety.
Recent legislation has served as a sharp reminder of how the courts view negligence in this area of employee well-being. In a recent case, £175,000 was awarded to a former manager suffering from reactive depression due to increasingly impossible workloads. These cases are expensive, time consuming and damaging for the organisations involved.
Employee Advisory Resource offers complete stress management interventions which are based on the principle that prevention is better than cure.
Primary Level:
Stress/Well-being Audits
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (1999) requires employers to assess risk to health and safety from the hazards of work. This includes the risk of employees developing stress-related illness because of their work.
Employee Advisory Resource’s bespoke stress/well-being audits can be used both as part of a general health risk assessment or purely as an organisational stress audit. They help organisations to:
- Identify the sources of the stress in the workplace
- Establish which groups of employees are more at risk
- Evaluate the severity of the risk
- Use best practice to reduce the level of exposure
- Benchmark against other industry surveys
- Identify cost-effective remedies to address any problems
Secondary Level: Stress Management Courses
Employee Advisory Resource’s stress management courses are secondary interventions, designed to help employees and managers improve their ability to cope effectively with stress.
Our courses can be tailored in content and can vary in duration, from hour-long ‘taster’ workshops to two-day courses. Examples of some of the topics available include:
- Managing pressure in the workplace
- Positive strategies for managing stress
- Managing work/life balance
- Keeping pressure positive in an environment of change
- HR’s role in stress in the workplace
- Keeping calm in a crisis
- Alternative therapies, such as herbal medicine, yoga and transcendental meditation
Tertiary Level: EAPs
A commitment to an EAP is a significant demonstration by an organisation of their belief in the importance of supporting their employees and providing a ‘Duty of Care’ legislation.
